Protests In Karachi Against Hyderi MurderPAKISTAN, KARACHI: Partial strike is being observed in various cities of the country while incidents of violence and arson were also reported in Karachi and Sindh in protest of the killing of a banned sectarian outfit’s leader, Aaj News reported.

Allama Ali Sher Haideri, chief of outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, was killed with one of his associates when he was ambushed by unknown miscreants near Khairpur late night Sunday.

According to sources, Haideri was returning to his hometown Khairpur from a ceremony in Pir Jo Goth when he came under attack yesterday night. The miscreants opened fired on his vehicle killing him and his assistant Imtiaz Phalphoto on spot. Two other people were also injured in the attack.

In retaliation by Haideri’s guards an attacker was also killed who was later identified as Oshaq Ali Jagerani. However, his accomplices managed to flee the scene, DPO Khairpur told the channel. The security has been tightened throughout the district after the incident in the wake of possible reaction of the killing, he added.

Following the news of Haider’s murder angry crowds of his followers came on streets in various cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Khairpur, Checha Watni and others, and hurled stones on the vehicles.

They also chanted slogans against the government and forced the shopkeepers to close their businesses.

In Karachi, enraged people blocked Main Nagan Chowrangi road and set two vehicles on fire. Protests have also been reported from some other areas of the city.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened throughout the country and Rangers have also been summoned in sensitive cities for patrolling and assisting the police in maintaining law and order.

Haideri’s funeral prayers will be offered at 4pm.
