Provinces to Decide Local Bodies Future: PM Gilani

ISLAMBAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said it is the provinces not the federal government that would decide the future of Local Bodies System, as this issue relates to the provinces.
Talking to media on the occasion of inaugural ceremony of Margalla Railway Station, he said the recommendations of the Chief Ministers from all the provinces would be sent to the president, adding PM is not responsible for holding the local bodies election; instead, CMs are to do it.
He continued that it is up to the provinces to conduct LB elections or appoint administrators.
He said it is in the interest of all that a uniform system should be installed throughout the country, as this would seem awkward that one province is run under magistrate system and the other province is run under LB system with nazim heading it.
After the term of LB is over, the President will have no more control over the Local Bodies, he said.
He stressed that his party is committed for the abolishment of the Seventeenth Amendment and 58-2B.
