Putin to lead Russian rooters at 2008 Olympics in China

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will head the team of Russian rooters at the opening of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after his meeting with Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.
“I am convinced that this will be a grandiose sport festivity that will draw to the Chinese capital hundreds of thousands of rooters, including from Russia. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will lead the Russian rooters,” Lavrov said yesterday. He added that Putin would hold talks with Chinese leaders in Beijing.
“We hope that matters of practical cooperation in key areas, first of all in trade and economic one, will be discussed during the planned meetings of Vladimir Putin with the Chinese leadership.
Meetings on the top and high level between the two countries are very intensive. Our top leaders and prime ministers will meet more than once by the end of this year alone,” Lavrov said.
The Beijing Olympic Games will open at the main stadium of the Chinese capital, Bird Nest, at eight in the evening local time on August 8.
