In the backdrop of assault on candidates from Bihar in Mumbai, the Railway recruitment examinations for Patna and Ranchi regions scheduled to be held on November 9 have been postponed till further notice. Railways Minister Lalu Prasad said the railway recruitment examinations in eastern India had to be postponed due to “tension” among students and that they will be conducted if all the states guarantee their safety and security.
“Examinations had to be postponed due to tension and to avoid further occurrence of any unpleasant incidents,” he told reporters in New Delhi on Friday (Nov 7). The Minister, however, noted that “examinations will be conducted if all the states, including Maharashtra guarantee safety and security of the students.”
Lalu’s reply came in response to a question on whether any examination will be conducted in Maharashtra or not. Early today, Railway Recruitment Boards of Patna, Muzaffarpur and Ranchi postponed written examinations scheduled for November 9 citing “unavoidable administrative reasons.” Candidates have been advised to visit railway recruitment board website for further information.
The examinations were scheduled to be conducted at centres situated in Ranchi, Rourkela, Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Patna and Muzaffarpur. The minister asserted that security arrangements have to be beefed up before examinations. He also ruled out the possibility of conducting the Railway recruitment examinations in a centralised mode.
