The cheerleaders are believed by many to be the biggest attraction of the Indian Premier League. However, two of these attractive girls have something serious to complain against. Sherinne Anderson, a member of the Mohali cheerleader team, claims that they became a victim of racism when two personnel of the Wizcraft agency asked them to leave the ground because they were too dark. However, the event management company Wizcraft has categorically denied any such action.
Event management Company Wizcraft International Entertainment has denied charges of racism against cheerleaders of the Mohali team. They said that they didn’t ask two British African IPL cheerleaders to stay away from Mohali stadium because they were black. Speaking for the Company, Sabbas Joseph, Director, Wizcraft International said, “We had a limited assignment, so the cheerleaders were given a limited assignment too. Every dancer would like to perform for the rest of their lives but if you are professional you have been asked to do two shows. Just because there were 20 other shows does not mean they would be chosen. Another dance troupe was on the cards and that troupe arrived.” Wizcraft has stated categorically that no one from the company had made any references to any cheerleader.
Only in the recent past Indians like Harbhajan Singh and Silpa Shetty have fallen prey to racial discrimination. However, in the case of these cheerleaders the roles have been reversed. It will be interesting to see how a country that always claims to be discriminated against, responds to being the perpetrator of the same charges.
