Flash back to the summer of 2009. July 1, and Buffalonians demanding help on the blue line since Jaroslav Spacek looks to be headed out of town. GM Darcy Regier responded by signing … Steve Montador? Wanted a good, not the man for you, but nevertheless solid. Some time passes without any news from HSBC, and everyone starts to get antsy. Bloggers, fans and columnists calling for the President of Darcy not to sign a man, and build more than stormclouds season swords. Then, a ray of light penetrates the clouds – the return of fan favorite Mike Greer. Difficult, two-way veteran to anchor the six bottom.
And that’s where we ended up at the beginning of this season. The two free agent acquisitions and solid defenseman, but weak, aging veteran looking forward to some leadership and experience to Buffalo. Fast forward to in the summer of 2010, and why we have so far? Another solid defenseman, but he is weak, and to the aging veteran forward, who should bring some leadership and toughness of the bottom six. It might not be constructive, but other work outside the season well. Let’s take a look at the latest and most difficult to clarify the Sabre, Rob Niedermayer, and after the end of the first half.
