S M Krishna declines the Congress ticket

Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 9:03 pm

In an unprecedented development on the poll front, Senior Congress leader S M Krishna declares on Tuesday (March 24), that he will not contest the Lok Sabha elections. In a letter addressed to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, S M Krishna declines to contest from the Bangalore South seat.

As S M Krishna comments, he will now spare and devote more time, into making the Congress party stronger. Krishna says, I want to stay away from the Lok Sabha polls.

According to S M Krishna, “I am a Rajya Sabha member, and I would like to stay away from the electoral politics. Krishna further added that, he will make use of the time to help the Congress party win in the Lok Sabha polls.

With merely a short time left for the filing of nominations, the Congress is yet to finalise on its candidates, while the BJP and the JD(S) have already gone a step ahead in devising their electoral strategies.

Though not many leaders consider the poll outcome to be a referendum on the government or the party’s leadership, many believe that results would be a key indicator to the Lok Sabha polls for the parties to up their ante and draw up a furture blueprint.
