MUMBAI : Sachin Tendulkar is an Institution, It is just so difficult to remember or speak on Sachin for the fact that he has now played for 20 years.

Playing cricket for such a long time isn’t something many cricketers can do, while he has done it in great style. So much I want to say but every time I try singling out an occasion, he does something special that you forget his previous achievement. Javed Miandad said.

But not to praise him blindly, he impressed me in his first outing, so what if he scored only a few runs. I remember that day when a cherubic looking kid came out in the centre. Not that we took him lightly, but around so many men, a little bloke coming out and middling the ball against one of the best pace attacks then only proved that he was out to do big things.

In the next couple of Tests, didn’t he hit two fifties, I mean then Imran (Khan), Wasim (Akram) and a fiery debutant Waqar could unsettle anyone, but this lad made it look so simple. Even today, he makes it look as simple as it was when he begun. That’s the reason I say Sachin is an institution, there isn’t any nuance of the game which a cricketer can’t learn from him.

More so, his curiosity to learn all the time amazed me. In fact, this is what keeps him ahead of the curve even at this pedestal of his life. Once when India was here (in Pakistan) we were going through our drills and Sachin found one of our drills interesting and straight away came to ask why and how did this drill help.

This is what sets him apart. Not in this generation would you find a player who has such humility. Carrying the way he has on and off the field, and that too for 20 years, without a blot, isn’t something that many would be able to achieve.
