Senate Demands Early Release of Afia

Mian Raza Rabbani Thursday demanded the US administration to release Dr Afia and assured the House to take all possible measures for her release and provide all possible assistance.
“U.Sshould soon repatriate Dr Afia as it is the voice of the people of Pakistan,” said Mian Raza Rabbani responding to the words of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who presented a report on a meeting with Dr Afia in US.
He said whatsoever happened with Dr Afia in Pakistan or in United States is sheer violation of human rights.
He assured the House that the government would provide all possible assistance to Dr Afia, including legal assistance and all the expenses would be borne by the government.
Besides Dr Afia, he said, the government is also taking steps to recover other people who went missing during the previous government.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik, said the repatriation of Dr Afia is government’s responsibility but some matters are yet to be interrogated about her visit to Afghanistan.
He said, according to Aafia’s son repatriated from Afghanistan, they were abducted on the way while they left House to go somewhere.
He told the House that the Pakistani ambassador in US has also been asked to provide her every possible assistance and added that the government is in constant touch with her sister and other family members.
