Septa Strike 2009 Update
Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 10:22 pm

Members of the Transport Workers Union met yesterday morning’s vote to authorize strike against SEPTA.
The vote was almost unanimous, and the action could start work anytime this week unless the union negotiators and management can agree.
A strike that shut down the crucial line Broad Street subway south of the city’s sports complex just before a weekend that includes a set of Flyers, Phillies World Series Yankees, a potential NFC East showdown between the first Eagles and Giants, and the final concerts at the Spectrum.
The union representing subway and streetcar operators, bus drivers and mechanics. They have been working without a contract since spring. Regional Rails still work because workers are covered by another contract.
The TWU is pushing for a salary increase of six percent and a bump in pension payments.
In 2005, the union went on strike for seven days suspension from duty of all buses, trams and metro lines.
SEPTA said it has a contingency plan should the strike occur, but authorities have not gone into detail, saying the public does not need to know because they are confident an agreement can be reached within days.
