Shane Watson wins second Allan Border MedalShane Watson has once again confirmed himself as most important player of Australia by winning second consecutive Allan Border Medal, the top Medal in Australian cricket. He also scooped the one-day international and Test awards. The Short-format specialist David Hussey won the Twenty20 trophy. Pakistan origin Usman Khuawaja named as best state player in the ceremony.  

Shane Watson became the second man after Ricky Ponting to win two back-to-back medals. Australian captain won the two consecutive medals in season 2006-07. For the Allen Border Award the nearest opponent of Watson was Hussy but at the end margin was enormous he had 295 votes to Hussey’s 195. Watson also became the only player after Ricky Ponting to collected three major awards. Ponting sweep trio major awards of Australian cricket in year 2007.

The competition was hard between Watson and Michael Johnson for the one-day player of the year award but the opener won the award by one vote. For the Test player of the year award opponents were same but in the result Watson was 4 votes ahead then Johnson. Watson beat captain of future Michael Clark by one vote in the race of cricketer of the year award.

Shane Watson, who was constantly hampered by injuries in earlier stages of his career said: “The last couple of years have been something I never thought would really happen throughout my cricket career, so it’s been really nice to play as long as I have continuously, It’s an amazing honor to be able to win the Allan Border Medal, but it’s also to play continuous cricket for the last couple of years, which is probably my biggest feat I feel I’ve been able to achieve.”

Watson opened for Australia in both one-day and Test formats and gave wonderful performance. He scored 435 runs at 48.33 with four half-centuries in the recent Ashes Test series, and hit a career-best 161 not out during Australia’s 6-1 one-day series victory over England in 2011.
