Suicide Attack on Iraq Mosque, 11 killed

Baghdad: Suicide Attack on Iraq Mosque, 11 killed, A suicide attacker opened fire on worshipers at a mosque Friday in northern Iraq and then blew himself up, killing 11 people and wounding 42, police and hospital sources said.

The attacker fired shots from AK-47 rifle at a mosque in the city of Tal Afar, a local police official. When the shooter ran out of ammunition, detonated her explosives belt, the official said.

A hospital official in Tal Afar confirmed the casualties. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Tal Afar, about 90 miles (150 kilometers) east of the Syrian border in Nineveh province, was the scene of a series of horrific attacks by insurgents.

In July, a coordinated attack by two suicide bombers killed 38 people there.
