Suicide Blast in Peshawar 19 killed, 45 Injured

PESHAWAR, Pakistan
: A suicide bomber on Thursday attacked the judicial complex on Khyber Road here, killing 19 persons including three policemen besides injuries to 45 others in deadly blast that rocked the city.
“Nineteen bodies have been brought to the Lady Reading Hospital” Dr Sahib Gul, Deputy Medical Officer (DMS) Lady Reading Hospital told APP. The condition of five injured are critical and were shifted to ICU for treatment, he said.
DCO Peshawar Sahibzada Muhammad Anis told reporters that the suicide bomber detonated his explosive packed jacket when intercepted by police for search.
He said the bomber was trying to enter the main gate of the judicial complex for terrorist act.
Five vehicles in the parking area were destroyed. The bodies of Assistant Sub-Inspector Khaista Gul and constable Abrahim were identified while identity of other victims could not be immediately ascertained. Windowpanes of nearby buildings at the vicinity were smashed into pieces.
The blast was so powerful that bodies of the victims with stains of blood scattered in the area with black smoke fume over the sky. The injured are being shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Relief and rescue operation has started to evacuate those affected.
Emergency has been declared in hospitals and doctors on leave have been called in for duty. Khyber Road which had been closed for traffic after the blast has been opened. The bang of explosion was heard in long distance that created terror among the residents.
Besides, Judicial Complex Supreme Court registry, High Court and main Govt buildings are located on Khyber Road.
The NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the blast and expressed heartfelt sympathies over the loss of precious lives.
He directed the hospital administration for provision of better treatment facilities to the injured.
The Governor said the terrorists have no religion and are targeting the innocent people which is the extreme limit of barbarism adding that no human being can be expected of such cowardly acts. Meanwhile, Minister for Information Mian Iftekhar Hussain and Environment Minister Wajid Ali Khan also condemned the blast and expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives.
