Taliban’s refusal to talks will invite use of force: NWFP Govt

PESHAWAR: The NWFP government has decided to deal firmly with the elements responsible for creating law and order situation in the province.
The decision was made at the meeting of the provincial cabinet held here under the chairmanship of NWFP Chief Minister, Amir Haider Hoti here on Monday.
Regarding Baitullah Mehsud’s threat to NWFP government, he said the government will not be demoralized by such tactics and never surrender before the militants. The people have given their mandate to the present government to establish peace in the province and it will complete its constitutional term, he added.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the government will ensure protection to the life property of the people at all cost.
He said the earlier rulers imposed marshal law to run the government and now militants are coming up with threats to the elected government. Today they threatened provincial government and if not discouraged they will intimidate the federal government in future, he added.
The provincial government will remain committed to the peace accord reached with the local Taliban in Swat and all the terms of the agreement will be fulfilled.
He said twenty detainees have been released so far while the promise of enforcing Shariah will be fulfilled in the next three months.
The troops will remain in Swat till law and order is completely restored there, he said.
Regarding the unrest in Hangu, he said the government is also ready to hold negotiations to resolve the situation there.
