Telgi pleads guilty for cases against him in Gujarat

Abdul Karim Telgi, kingpin of the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, has pleaded guilty in case registered against him in Gujarat. He confessed to his crime through a letter written from a Bangalore jail where he is presently lodged.

The letter was produced before the special CBI court here yesterday when the case came up for hearing. The court has posted the matter for further hearing on November 6.

Telgi has also prayed for minimum sentence after taking into consideration his confinement during judicial custody from November 2001. He has further stated that he is suffering from diseases like HIV/AIDS, cardiac problem, uncontrolled diabetes and neuropathy.

In his letter Telgi has stated that he wants to finish all his cases before he dies, and has urged the court to take decision on his plea, pleading guilty, in his absence.

Along with Telgi, two of his accomplice here Sadiq and Siddharth alias Sidhu have also pleaded guilty before court. Earlier this year, five persons involved in the stamp scam in Gujarat had admitted to the crime and they were sentenced to five years imprisonment by the CBI court.

Seventeen accused have been booked in the fake stamp scam in Gujarat after the CBI busted the scam in 2001.

They have been arrested for fraud worth more than Rs 8.5 crore by circulating fake revenue, insurance and postal stamps in Gujarat market.
