ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Ashur is being observed today (Thursday) throughout the country with solemnity to remember the martyrs of Karbala. The authorities have stepped up security across the country as mourners began annual Ashura processions to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

Alam and Zuljina processions will be taken out in Karachi, Lahore and other major cities and towns throughout the country. The Ulema and Zakereen would highlight the significance of Ashura while mourners would pay tribute to Imam Hussain’s great sacrifice in Karbala.

In Lahore, a major procession was to begin later on Wednesday, culminating at a major mosque late Thursday.

A similar procession will begin in Islamabad late Wednesday, joining a big gathering of the mourners in Rawalpindi.
