Christie Todd, Christie Todd NJ: Chris Christie predicted to be “a big fat winner”. Republican Chris Christie has won the race for governor of New Jersey, unseating the rich, tax-raising Democrat Jon Corzine.New Jersey, has had 27 governors Republicans and 16 Democrats. Christie Todd Whitman, is the last Republican elected statewide. She left office in January 2001.
Chris Christie Corzine alluded to being too fat to retain the governorship. “That raised the dialogue and Christie made some hay with it (see a video below).
Christie supports tax credits for families sending their children to private schools, which supports state-funded vouchers to families trying to reach their children from failing school districts, supports merit pay for teachers and aims to increase the availability of charter schools. Christie supports civil unions and opposes same-sex marriage. He has promised not to raise taxes and reduce state tax revenue and business – although it has stated it will not be immediately feasible, and especially not feasible in the first year.
