Uma Bharthi’s U-turn on Sadhvi Pragya

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 5:11 am

Bharatiya Janshakti Party chief Uma Bharthi has done a U-turn on the Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur issue on Tuesday (November 4). Uma now wants Sadhvi to contest the Madhya Pradesh polls on her party’s ticket.

Uma’s party now seeks the court’s permission to field the Sadhvi in the polls. Today (November 4, 2008) Uma Bharthi’s party filed an affidavit in a Nashik court seeking Sadhvi Pragya Singh’s assent to contest the Madhyas Pradesh (MP) polls.

Bharthi had earlier denied offering Sadhvi a ticket to contest the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Her statement at the time contradicted that of the BJS National Secretary — Inder Prajapat, who told reporters in Indore, “If she (Pragya) wishes, our party will field her from any seat in Madhya Pradesh against the BJP. We had a discussion with Sadhvi Pragya’s lawyer in this regard and if she agrees then the party would consider fielding her against any powerful leader of the BJP.”

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is one of he main suspects linked to the recent Malegaon blasts that took place in September. Pragya Singh Thakur, a prime accused in the Malegaon blast, underwent narco-analysis tests on November 4 at a hospital in south Mumbai’s Nagpada police hospital.
