US Senate passes Kerry-Lugar Bill

NEW YORK: The US Senate Thursday unanimously passed the Kerry- Lugar bill, authorizing $ one and half billion in economic assistance for Pakistan annually over five years, President Barack Obama announced here at a major moot expressing economic support for Pakistan.
Co-chairing Friends of Pakistan Summit with President Asif Ali Zardari and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the U.S. President reaffirmd his administration’s commitment to economic cooperation with Pakistan.
The US House of Representative is now expected to pass the bipartisan measure shortly, after which it will be sent to President Obama’s desk for his signatures.
