After Tata Group’s green signal to West Bengal government on small car project in Singur, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya in his latest reaction to the has said that the West Bengal government does not want war over Singur, but industrial development.
Speaking at a rally in Burdhwan, Buddhadeb urged the farmers who have lost their land to approve the compensation package, and allow the Tatas to return to work. The Tatas have hailed the compensation package doled out to the farmers, and have hoped the compensation will be accepted.
“We don’t want war, we want industry. We’ve raised compensation for the farmers and landless farmers will also be compensated. We care for the survival of the farmers of Singur too. It’s not a question of my respect, it’s a question of the state’s respect so if need be, I will approach the Governor again. The compensation package has already been published in today’s newspaper, so I am appealing to the land losers there to approve of our package, so that the Tatas can return to work,” says Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
The West Bengal government, in addition to offering 70 acres of land back for public purpose, has also proposed 50% more price for the land acquired from the farmers, besides other incentives.
