“Yuvvraaj”, which marks Subhash Ghai’s return to his old style of film making, is a great visual and musical experience set against the backdrop of a divided family, according to the ace director. “It is about inheritance of a father. The film questions the importance of money over family values. It is a grand musical and visual experience,” Ghai told reporters in New Delhi.
Talking about the concept of “Yuvvraaj”, Ghai said that he wanted to weave together the magic of Indian classical and Western music. “Yuvvraaj”, which releases on November 21, is the story of a divided family of three brothers Deven Yuvvraaj (Salman Khan), Gyanesh Yuvvraaj (Anil Kapoor) and Danny Yuvvraaj (Zayed Khan).
Salman is a struggling singer in the film, who has to become a billionaire in 40 days to marry his girlfriend Anoshka (Katrina Kaif). In his effort to become rich, he meets his two estranged brothers after a gap of 12 years. “I play a very negative character in the film. My character is frustrated, angry and jealous with everyone because he has been denied love from all quarters.
“My character is kicked out of house when he is barely 12-year-old so he is very bitter but he changes in the end,” Salman said. Salman, however, denied reports that he had some problems with Ghai. “We always discuss while doing a particular scene and everyone has their own view. It’s all part of film making,” said Salman.
Actor Anil Kapoor, who plays an autistic character in the film, said he had freedom to explore his character and interpret it in his own way. “Ghaiji has always given me the freedom to experiment with my characters. My look in the film is my own idea. I found the look in a magazine and thought it would fit well with my character in the film,” he said. Katrina said she had always wanted to work with Ghai.
“I love my character in the film. My look in the film reminded me about the old Hollywood films but my character is very modern. She is a musician and based in Austria. She plays an important role in the lives of the three brothers,” she said.
