Zardari Says No Compromise over Sovereignty of CountryJAMSHORO: President Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday that Pakistan was a great power and no compromise would be made at the cost of its sovereignty.

Addressing the 47th Parents’ Day ceremony of Cadet College Petaro (CCP), the President said that freedom was the country’s ideology and being an independent state its inhabitants would never compromise on the sovereignty of the homeland.

Earlier, upon his arrival, the President was warmly welcomed by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah amid an standing ovation by the guests.

President Zardari said the destiny has called upon him to lead the Pakistan at a crucial juncture in its history.

Pakistani nation is great and “we will defend the country till the last drop of our blood,” he said.

Speaking about his experience as a cadet in the CCP, Jamshoro, he recalled that he still remembers some of the instructions of his teachers. The President also quoted sayings of his teachers at the Cadet College, Petaro.

The President highly appreciated the training procedures and professional skills of the cadets at the College.

On the occasion the President announced a Rs.100 million grant for additional development work at different sections of the college.

He also announced Rs. 5 million as personal donation for the college and one month bonus salaries for all the faculty members in the College.

The President noted that throughout his life he converted all his weaknesses into strength. He stressed that life is a process of learning, from cradle to the grave.

President Zardari said that the nation was great and so was the country and that he along with the nation would defend Pakistan till last drop of his blood.

Addressing the ceremony, Principal, Cadet College Petaro, Commodore Muhammad Aslam Rana said presence of the President at the event speaks about his interest in promotion of education in Pakistan and a matter of encouragement and inspiration for the young cadets.

Commodore Aslam said Petaro Cadet College was the largest residential Cadet College of Pakistan with 888 cadets and aims at preparing young cadets for challenges of tomorrow.

The college has been instrumental in providing outstanding trained cadets not only to the armed forces of Pakistan but also in other fields of national services, he said.

Presenting annual college report for 2007-08, he said that in the recently held SSC Examination Part-I, out of 181 cadets, 163 secured A-1 grade, 17 got A and only one cadet secured grade “B” and the overall result was 100 per cent.

He said that in HSC part-II out of 186 cadets, 182 secured A-1 grade, in HSC part-I, in both pre-engineering and pre-medical groups out of 178 cadets, 78 secured A-I grade while 80 got “A”.

Five cadets of the college were among the ten top position holders in the exams – 2008, organized by Hyderabad Board of Intermediate Board Examination.

Presenting details about new development projects, Commodore Aslam said 15 modern quarters for low-paid employees, a new bachelors’ hostel with 10 bed rooms and all other facilities are being raised and the new jogging track has been completed.

The Principal of the institution highlighted the problems and the achievements of the CCP.

Later, the President awarded medals and certificates to the cadets on their outstanding achievements.

Cadet Muhammad Noman Sharif Rana secured first position in annual examination 2007-08 for class VIII, Khanzada Farhaj Ali Khan stood first in class IX, Raja Awais Shafique got first position in class-X, Abdul Ghaffar got first position in class-XI (Pre-engineering) and Sikander Azam secured first slot in class-XI (pre-medical) while cadet Muhammad Jawad got first in class XII.

The President gave award to Ayaz ali Qureshi for being declared the best teacher and also to Abdullah as the best employee for the year 2007-08. Mumtaz Malik was declared as best instructor and Zabihullah as best sports officer.

Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Home Minister, Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza and Sindh Minister Murad Ali Shah were also present on the occasion.
